Story Corner: Thankful Together

Thankful Together
by Holly Davis

Review:
This book highlights the simplicity of things to be thankful for all throughout the day.  This mom and baby go throughout their day, like any other normal day, but they emphasize those small moments that can easily be taken for granted and overlooked and share how thankful they are...
     - for a wonderful morning
     - for clothes that we wear
     - for food that we eat
     - for games that we play
     - for the world God made
     - for laughter and fun

As mom, this book is a great reminder to cherish every moment, no matter how stressful some days are or how many sibling battles you have to referee or how many moments you can recall where you lost your own self-control.  Every moment good or bad is one to be thankful for because you are living them out TOGETHER!

Bible Point:
Give thanks in ALL circumstances.

Memory Verse:
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Pinterest Activities:
We did the following activities from Pinterest to go along with our book...

1. Thankfulness Wreath from The Glamorous Life of a Housewife

2.  Give Thanks Scripture Cards from Second Chance to Dream

3.  The Gratitude Game from Play. Party. Pin.

4.  Thankful Bingo from Crazy Little Projects

Story Corner: Dinos in the Snow

Story Corner...
Lesson on There is a Time for Everything

Book: Dinos in the Snow by Karma Wilson

Easy read of a book and great for a dinosaur lover! Discover what dinosaurs do in the snow from dressing warm to playing in the snow to what specific dinosaurs do best (like dilaphosaurus builds the biggest snowman in town) and ending with warming up with hot cocoa and sleeping in the snow (guess they got REALLY warm!).  A great winter book for a young pre-reader/reader.

Bible Point:
God gave us time for everything!

Memory Verse:
"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

Activities:

  • Science Experiment: Make Snow & Dino Play

After we made our snow, we put dino toys in it.
I read the book while he played.

Then we made the dinos sled in the snow...

Sleep in the snow...

Get stuck in the snow and try to look for them...

Dig them out!

And of course pull them out, so they could warm up with some hot cocoa
and then put them back in to sleep!

      Story Corner: "What is Thanksgiving?"

      Story Corner
              Lesson of Thankfulness

Book:  What is Thanksgiving? by Michelle Medlock Adams

      Overview:
So, what is Thanksgiving really about? This book with its colorful and cute illustrations, first starts out with how the world celebrates this occasion - parades, yummy food, family and football.  But is there more to this special day? YES! It's the one day we remember why we get to celebrate with yummy food, parades, family and football - because of GOD! This is a great book for young kids to learn that God gives us all things so we can celebrate and we should remember to say "Thank You, God!"

      Bible Point:
      Be thankful for all things.

      Memory Verse:
"I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart." Psalm 138:1

      Activities:
I paste the cornucopia to a file folder and then fill it with vegetables, have my son count
how many is in it.  Or you can call out what to put it, then count it, etc.

      Craft:
      • Thankful Hands Wreath
I will use different foam sheet colors, trace my son's hand, cut them out.  Then take a paper plate and cut out the center.  Have my son glue the hands around the paper plate.  We'll decorate with glitter, stickers, pine cones, leaves, etc.  On the hand prints I'll write the things he's thankful for.  Will post picture once we complete ours!

      Lesson Plan:  Coming Soon!

Have fun and be a blessing to your tot(s)!!!

Story Corner: Thankful for God's Love

      Story Corner
              Lesson of Thankfulness

Book:  Thank You God, for loving me by Max Lucado

      Overview:
Little Hermie prays to God and tells us just how much God loves us.  It begins with Little Hermie saying a prayer of thanks for God's love under an autumn tree.  As Little Hermie continues his prayer, he expresses ways that God loves us - watching over me; always with me (even when I'm scared); and my source of guidance.  This is a great book for preschoolers to understand that God is always with us and loves us always!

      Bible Point:
      God's love never fails.

      Memory Verse:
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  His love endures forever." Psalm 107:1

      Activities:
      Craft:

      Story Corner: Thankful

      Story Corner
              Lesson of Thankfulness

Book:  Thank You God, for blessing me by Max Lucado

      Overview:
Little Hermie teaches kids to be thankful for God's blessings.  First starts out with Little Hermie thanking God for blessing him with the wonderful world around him to live in.  Then Little Hermie counts his blessings - safe place to sleep, food to eat, and God making him special.  He thanks God for friends and family and names everyone he knows.  Then Little Hermie points out the key to an attitude of gratitude - he asks God to help him be kind and obey! And it ends with Little Hermie saying a thankful good night prayer.

      Bible Point:
God is happy when I'm thankful!

      Memory Verse:
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  His love endures forever." Psalm 107:1

      Activities:
      Craft:
      • Placemat: Things I'm Thankful For
We'll be using a piece of construction paper (whatever color my son chooses) and then finding pictures online of things he is thankful for (including family pictures), printing them, cutting them and pasting them.  Then I will laminate for durability.  I'll post a picture of our completed placemat soon.
      Lesson Plan:

Have fun and be a blessing to your tot(s)!!!
