Day 3 Pumpkin Theme

Our pumpkin theme is half over, hard to believe!
Our day 3 activities we did a little more only because
we are taking day 4 as a family day and to get
ready for trick or treaters to come by.

Here is an overview:
Coloring his fruit to cut and paste
into the basket.  Today we learned
about Joy and Peace.

All done!!!

This is our word family game
with "ck" words!

He picked up pumpkins and then
lined them up on the correct word family line.

Reading his word!

I think this was a little too easy for him though.
I'm going to have to come up with something
more challenging for my learning bud!

Reading all the words!

Yay!!! I did them all!!!

Journal Time in the Writing Center
He draws a picture first of what he wants to
write about.  Then dictates to me what he wants to
say.  I write it on the writing center folder
and he copies it into his journal.

Working hard!

Yay!!! I know the picture doesn't show his journal
very good. :(  But he drew a picture of Mario, Luigi,
and the Toadstools and wrote the following:
"How do you beat the mushrooms? Mario, Luigi and the
toadstools jump on them."

Sight Word Search
Found a new use for our stampers!
He stamped the words he found.

Sight Word Writing Time
Working on the word "look".
He traced the word and then wrote 4 sentences
using the word "look".

Again he told me the sentences and he copied them.

Our number board from Lakeshore Learning.

Working on the number 7.
He had to find the following:
fraction
tally
tens frame
one to one correspondence

All done!

Yay!!!

Tens Frame Pumpkin Worksheets from COAH
Another great use four our stampers,
especially since he still doesn't like to color.

He made his own game with it.
He'd do bullet sounds every time
he stamped, pretending to kill spiders
that wanted to get the pumpkins. LOL

And of course little brother ALWAYS
curious and getting into everything!

But he never did get distracted (that's a first)!!!

Come back for Day 5, since Day 4 is Halloween
and we are taking a break! But Day 5 will be full
of science stuff!!! :)

Week 1: Language Arts

Our first week of Kindergarten covered quite a bit in Language Arts, but my Funky Monkey had lots of fun with the rhymes and tales and all the activities. Here is a glimpse of what we did!

Below are videos of my budding story teller, retelling fables and tales he learned.

Below are the writing worksheets he completed for certain tales.  We did writing for Three Little Pigs and Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Below is a "House Color by Size", which we did as a following direction prompt.  It was later in the day by this point and he didn't want to color
so I served pretzel sticks and juice, that perked him right up.

Part of "You Can Read Unit #1" from 1+1+1=1
He had to find the sight words he learned.
I use this as his "assessment" at the end of the week
and then reward him with his certificate.

Drawing Practice
My little guy wants to learn to draw
more and more, so I've been trying
to add in some practice sheets for him
that go with different stories.
Here is the 3 Little Pigs, he had to
draw their houses.

Part of the "You Can Read Unit #1" from 1+1+1=1
This was part of his morning work after day 1 of
learning his 4 sight words.  He was to circle the sight
words he learned.  As you can tell, we had a couple mistakes,
but in my opinion, pretty good, since we didn't review
them before he completed this.

Writing Sheet for Three Little Pigs Tale
He was to come up with a sentence about the wolf.

Cut & Label by Size Activity
I set this up in a learning center for him to complete
by himself.  He did really good!

More Writing Sheets
This is for Three Billy Goats Gruff
and Three Little Pigs.

Part of "You Can Read Unit #1" from 1+1+1=1
We used as a following direction prompt.
I gave him the directions and he circled
the correct sight word in a certain color.

Part of "You Can Read Unit #1" from 1+1+1=1
This is our first worksheet that we complete
for our introduction to the unit.

Awarded his first certificate for Unit #1!
He was so proud!!!
We also added the sight words he learned
to his baseball chart.

Week 2 PreK: Math, Literacy, Art Centers

Shape Center Activity
I drew circles with white crayon and white paper
and gave him watercolor paints to find the shapes.

Art Center Activity
Set out 6 pumpkin shapes with the letters to trace for his name.
Then had him glue popsicle sticks to the paper as a fence and
he glued the pumpkins on the gate.

When he was done, I had him tell me what each pumpkin was saying,
so he made his own "6 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate" story.

Writing Center Activity
This is daily work, but this shows the completion for the month of October.
He writes the date number for each day and locates the star number below to color.

Sight Word Center Activity
We review these 6 sight words daily (for this unit).
I put them in a center for him to flip them over and read the word.

Art Center Activity
I set out q-tips, paint on a plate, construction paper with a tree drawn on it.
He colored the tree shape brown and went to town with the q-tips and paint.
Didn't even have to tell him what to do, lol.

Math Center Activity
I gave him the worksheet, he knew what to do.
He used his scissors to cut out the different pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns.
Then he placed the correct pieces in the boxes and glued them.

Math/Writing Center Activity
This is part of his shape journal.
He traced the circle, colored it, and sang the Circle song.

Math Center Activity
I laid out the ice cream cone and told him to find the scoops of ice cream.
Once he found them all, he practiced lining up the scoops in numerical order
forwards and backwards.

Writing Center Activity
Practicing the number 1.
He recited the number 1 poem
and then completed his journaling.
We did this every day.

Art Center Activity
I had him lay down and I traced his body shape.
Gave him watercolor paint and a paint brush,
he was busy for about 45 minutes!

Math Center Activity
Taped circle cardstock shapes under a piece of a paper.
Gave him a crayon box and he did a rubbing to find the shapes.
